IT WAS A SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL!

This Western drama started on radio beginning Saturday,
April 26, 1952 and ran till June 18, 1961. It was heard
on the CBS radio network(KOIN in Portland). The cast
included William Conrad as Marshal Matt Dillon, Howard
McNear as Doc Charles Adams,Georgia Ellis as Kitty
Russell, and Parley Baer as Dillon’s Deputy Chester
Proudfoot. The first episode was titled,”Billy The Kid”.
The show was set in Dodge City, Kansas during the
1870’s.

    GUNSMOKE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE RADIO SHOWS. I HAVE COLLECTED ALL OF THE SHOWS,
    INCLUDING THE PREVIEW SHOW WHERE “MATT” DILLON WAS ACTUALLY “MARK” DILLON AND WAS’NT PLAYED BY BILL CONRAD!

    In your photo of the radio cast, that’s actor Howard McNear standing next to William Conrad. McNear played Dr. Charles Adams (Doc Adams) on the radio show. McNear is much better known for playing Floyd the Barber on the Andy Griffith Show.
