Patty Andrews (pictured recently above on the right with actress Joan Leslie) was
the lead singer of The Andrews Sisters, an extremely popular and successful close
harmony singing group of the swing and boogie-woogie eras. The group consisted
of three actual sisters…Patty, Laverne, and Maxene Andrews (shown below). They
were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. Their biggest  hit was
“Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”.

I think her and her sisters were great singers and their songs will always remain great. Any one to reproduce them, will not be able to do what the Andrew Sisters could do. I’m 46 with 2 young kids and I got them to like the Andrew Sisters. I’d like to thank Patty for her wonderful songs she and her sisters sang.

  14. Ms Andrews,
Thanks so much for the lifetime of entertainment, joy and moral support you and yours brought to the world. It has been quite a gift.
I too am decended from the San Francisco Irish. My father’s older sister (who you may have known), was married to Ray Mc Kinley and joined with songwriters Prince and Raye to pen the song “Beat Me Daddy Eight To the Bar” Family lore claims she provided the title to the song while they did the heavy lifting.
I have been a radio fixture here in Southern California for nearly forty years , (yes they keep asking me to leave … but I won’t!) having programmed and produced stations like KNX FM The Mellow Sound and KTWV The Wave. Gary Owens is an old and treasured friend. Midway through the 90’s, I ended up losing more than half of my vision due to some health issues so I have slowed down somewhat since then. I do. however, operate my own little silly station just to keep the love shooting out there … it is geared for people who like ALL kinds of music … so you might hear Jimi Hendrix next to Sinatra next to Speedy West and so on … needless to say we also play the Andrews Sisters. You will find us 24/7 at http://www.planetpootwaddle.com
I am glad I finally got a chance to contact you … I tried a number of years ago with no results. Thanks again for your contribution … you can rest assured you played a big part in saving the world.
    Thanks.
    Michael Sheehy

  20. john says:

To one of the fans who commented that the Andrews Sisters were Irish , you were misinformed they were of Greek heritage .

  21. John Raton says:

Did she have any children? Did any of the sisters have children?

  22. Brother J.R. Hughes says:

Greetings in the Name of Jesus, Who loves you so much HE would die for you. WAIT! HE already did.

I am the baby son of a World War II Navy officer who was a Boat Group Commander and was wounded landing troops at Iwo Jima. The Andrews Sisters were among the favorites of the sailors and the troops in the Pacific, but I did not know why until old movies, Nostalgia, Turner, showed a large number of the WWII movies. I first met you in person in that movie Private Buckaroo. Have since seen Patty and the Andrews sisters many times on the old movies. LIVE ON! And if I don’t ever see you here, hope to see you around the Throne of God in heaven. May God continue to protect and bless you. THANKS For All You and Sisters Did For That Great, GREAT Generations of Heroes Who Won World War Two!!!

  23. Brandon says:

Gosh, I’ve talked to many celebrities from around that time. (Most of which have given me autographs and such). Joan Leslie, the five remaining Chordettes, Lauren Bacall, and many more. Including Patty Andrews. Talked to her over the phone couple months ago? Due to her health, we had a faint conversation. But to think that same voice was played on millions of radios back in the 1940s and longer blows my mind. What a nice lady to talk to. I hope to add her to my collection of autographs one day. Would be nice to show off this personal collection I have! Hope she is doing well..

    -Brandon
