General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1964) made
his last official appearance in a farewell address to the U.S. Congress on April
19, 1951. The address was interrupted by fifty ovations and is considered to
be one of the most impressive and divisive oratorical performances of recent
times.
