JERRY VALE ~ BIRTHDAY 79 TODAY

In order to make some money while in high school, Jerry Vale he took a job shining
shoes in a barbershop in New York City. He sang while he shined shoes, and his
boss liked the sound so well that he paid for music lessons for the boy. Vale soon
started singing in high school musicals which let to night club gigs, including one
that lasted for three years. It was there that Jerry was discovered by songwriter
Paul Insetta, who was also a road manager for singer Guy Mitchell. He was signed
to a management contract, made some demo recordings for Columbia Records and,
as they say, the rest is history. His version of the National Anthem, recorded in the
late 1960s, was a fixture at sporting events for many years. Vale and Rita, his wife
of over forty years, reside in Palm Desert, California.

HIS BEST EFFORT WAS A 1956 HIT, (ACTUALLY DEBUTED ON THE BILLBOARD CHART JULY 7th,
55 YEARS AGO) “YOU DON’T KNOW ME” WHICH
PEAKED AT # 14. SIX YEARS LATER RAY CHARLES TOOK THE SAME SONG TO # 2!

    • Carole says:

Every song was his best effort; one of the most romantic and best voices ever. Much better than Frank Sinatra.

  2. Kathy Stephens says:

I agree with Carole. I’m listening to “I Remember Buddy” right now and absolutely love every song he sings! Wish I had been able to see him in person!

  3. Christopher Parker says:

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Jerry Vale sing in person a few times from the early 70’s through the 80’s. The very best singing voice I’ve ever heard. He reaches notes as smooth as can be done. I truly wish he was still performing.
