Rita Hayworth  (October 17, 1918 – May 14, 1987)

Born as Margarita Carmen Cansino in Brooklyn, New York, Rita Hayworth was a  
film actress and dancer who was one of the top stars of the 1040s. She was in  
61 films over a period of  37 years. The American Film Institute has Rita Hayworth 
listed as “One of the Greatest Stars of All Time”.

the largest scientific and educational institution in the world. It published its
first issue, called the National Geographic Magazine, on October 17, 1888,
just nine months after the nonprofit Society was founded.

 Mr. Smith goes to Washington premiered in Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., on October 17, 1939. The event was sponsored by the National Press Club  with 4,000 invited guests, including 45 senators. The Frank Capra film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, winning for Best Original Story.

THE VERDICT WAS IN ON THIS DAY IN 1931

Following a lengthy trial, Prohibition-era gangster and crime syndicate leader
Al Capone was  found guilty of income tax evasion and various Prohibition
violations. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison on October 17, 1931.
