A 63 year old Daredevil named Anna Edson Taylor (above) became the first
person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls in a airtight wooden barrel. She
dropped 175 feet while wearing a leather harness. Soft cushions were placed
inside the barrel to help protect her during the stunt. Taylor was shaken up
but not badly hurt, just one small cut on her forehead. She was desperate for
money to help pay off her debts. The widowed unemployed schoolteacher
died a pauper in 1921.
