TROMBONIST BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1919

                          Buddy Morrow (born Muni Zudekoff)   
                        (February 8, 1919-September 27, 2010) 

Morrow was a trombonist and bandleader, known for his mastery
of playing the upper range. He was once a member of The Tonight
Show Band. His early 1950s records such as “Night Train” appeared
on the Billboard charts.

Buddy Morrow was awarded the International Trombone Association’s
Lifetime Achievement Award. Prior to his death he was the leader of
the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

SCIFI PIONEER BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1828

           Jules Gabriel Verne (February 8, 1828 – March 24, 1905)

French author Jules Verne is best known for his novels Twenty Thousand
Leagues Under the Sea (1870), A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864),
and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873). He wrote about space, air, and
underwater travel before the invention of such means of transportation. Jules
Verne is often referred to as the “Father of Science Fiction”. Some of his books
have been made into live-action and animated films and TV shows.

“Mack The Knife” was recorded by Bobby Darin at Fulton Studios in New
York city, on December 19, 1958 and was released the following year in
August. The single earned Darin a Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

The career of John Towner Williams spans almost six decades, composing
some of the most recognizable film scores in the history of motion pictures, 
including the Star Wars Saga, Jaws, Indiana Jones film series, E.T. the Extra- 
Terrestrial,
and Jurassic Park. He has composed the music for all but two of 
Steven Spielberg’s major feature films.
