LEGENDARY LAWMAN BURIED IN PORTLAND

  Virgil Walter Earp (July 18, 1843 – October 19, 1905)

Virgil Earp was the older brother of Wyatt Earp and Tombstone
City
Marshal at the time of the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral
in 1881.

After suffering from pneumonia for six months, Virgil died in the
town of Goldfield, Nevada. His remains were sent to Portland,
Oregon at the request of his daughter Nellie Jane Bohn and
buried at the River View Cemetery (below), the state’s oldest
nonprofit cemetery, dating back to 1882.

Wilder served as the 66th Governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1994. His
most recent political office was Mayor of Richmond, Virginia, which he
held from 2005 to 2009. Wilder served in the Korean War, earning a
Bronze Star for heroism at Pork Chop Hill. He will turn 82 January 17.
