In June 2011, Campbell announced that he had been diagnosed with
Alzheimer’s disease six months earlier. He had been suffering from short-
term memory loss for years. He went on a final "Goodbye Tour" with his
last show on November 30, 2012 in Napa, California. Campbell sang
"Rhinestone Cowboy" as a goodbye at the 2012 Grammy Awards
which was held on February 12, 2012.

“Wichita Lineman” was written Jimmy Webb and reached #3 on the Billboard
Hot 100 chart and remained on the chart for 15 weeks. It also topped the
country music chart for two weeks, and the adult contemporary chart for
six weeks. Music journalist Stuart Maconie called it "the greatest pop song
ever composed”.
