‘’PIANO MAN’’ JOINS BAND ON THIS DAY IN 1964

William Martin "Billy" Joel (born May 9, 1949)

A New York band called The Echoes, a group that specialized in British Invasion
covers, recruited a young piano player named Billy Joel. They played at the Holy
Family Church teenclub on a regular basis.The quartet would play songs under
the names The Lost Souls, The Commandos and The Emerald Lords before Billy
left two years later to join The Hassles (above). Joel made his breakthrough in
1973 with "Piano Man".

Andrés Segovia Torres, 1st Marquis of Salobreña
February 21, 1893 – June 2, 1987)

Spanish classical guitarist  Andrés Segovia was given an Grammy Lifetime
Achievement Award in 1986 for his contributions to his genre. He disobeyed
his father by pursuing guitar rather than law. When he was sixteen, he had
a public performance in Grenada.

He has been regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
