RADIO SERIES DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1943

Archie Andrews began on the NBC Blue Network and switched to Mutual in 1944,
and then continued on NBC radio from 1945 until September 5, 1953. The show’s original announcer was Kenneth Banghart. Archie was first played by Charles Mullen (1943-1944).

PETER YARROW IS 77 TODAY

Singer Peter Yarrow found fame with the 1960s folk music trio Peter,
Paul and Mary
who sang "Puff, the Magic Dragon." In 1982, Yarrow
was the recipient of the Allard K. Lowenstein Award. He established
the anti-bullying group Operation Respect.

Before becoming a cultural icon, Eastwood worked as a lifeguard, a caddy, and
a grocery clerk while growing up. He served as the nonpartisan mayor of Carmel
by-the-Sea, California
from 1986 to 1988.
