TV SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1961

ABC’s Wide World of Sports is a sports anthology television series that
aired on the American Broadcasting Company from April 29, 1961 to
January 3, 1998, primarily on Saturday afternoons. Hosted by Jim McKay,
with a succession of co-hosts beginning in 1987, the title continued to be
used for general sports programs on the network until 2006. In 2007, Wide
World of Sports
was named by Time Magazine on its list of the 100 best
television programs of all-time.

WILLIE NELSON IS 83 TODAY

 


Willie Hugh Nelson was born in Abbott, Texas.

After graduating from high school, in 1950, Willie Nelson joined the 
Air Force but was later discharged due to back problems. After his 
return, he attended Baylor University for two years but dropped out 
because he was succeeding in music. During this time, he worked
as a disc jockey at Texas radio stations while singing in Honky-tonks
And
moved to Vancouver, Washington, where he worked at country
radio station KVAN and wrote "Family Bible" and recorded the song
"Lumberjack" in 1956.
