ACTRESS GLORIA DeHAVEN DIES AT 91


Gloria Mildred DeHaven (July 23, 1925 – July 30, 2016)

Gloria DeHaven was a actress and singer who was a contract star for Metro-
Goldwyn-Mayer
. Despite many featured roles, she never achieved movie
stardom. She began her career as a child actor with a bit part in Charlie
Chaplin
‘s Modern Times (1936. DeHaven died Saturday in Las Vegas, one
week after her 91st birthday.

RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1968

"Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)" is a Grammy Award-
winning novelty song by Allan Sherman and Lou Busch. It is based on
letters of complaint Allan received from his son Robert while attended
Camp Champlain in Westport, New York. The song is a parody that
complains about the fictional "Camp Granada" and is set to the tune
of Amilcare Ponchielli‘s "Dance of the Hours". The song scored #2
on the Billboard Hot 100 list for three weeks beginning August 24,
1963 and won a 1964 Grammy Award for comedy

Tony Bennett (Anthony Dominick Benedetto) was born in Astoria, Queens, New York.

Singer Tony Bennett if known for his renditions of show tunes, jazz, and
popular songs like "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and "Rags to Riches.

He dropped out of school to work as a copy boy in order to help support his
family. He was a painting and music student at New York’s School of Industrial
Art. He founded the Frank Sinatra School of Arts.
