Tammy Wynette (Virginia Wynette Pugh)
(May 5, 1942 – April 6, 1998)


Tammy Waynette was one of country music’s best-
known artists and biggest-selling female singers
during the late 1960s and first half of the 1970s.

Wynette charted 20 number-one songs on the
Billboard Country Chart. She is credited with
having defined the role of women in country
music during the 1970s.

Tammy died on April 6, 1998, at the age of 55
while sleeping on her couch in her
Nashville,
Tennessee
, home. Her doctor from said she
died of a
blood clot in her lung.

Walter was an country music disc jockey and television host
from
Nashville, Tennessee. He gained national fame hosting
the
syndicated television
music series, Pop! Goes the Country, 
from 1974 to 1980 and the nightly Nashville Network
television
program.

In 1966, Tex Ritter (right) joined Ralph Emery as co-host of
the all-night Opry Star Spotlight radio show on Nashville’s
WSM. Ritter would co-host the program for sixteen months.

COUNTRY SINGER HAS OFFICIALLY RETIRED

Kris Kristofferson, country singer-songwriter, actor, turns 83

(Fox News) – Kris Kristofferson’s official departure from music was
subtly mentioned in a release shared with Fox News on Thursday,
which reads: “The legendary country singer/songwriter and actor
quietly retired in 2020, leaving his son John Kristofferson to lead
the family’s businesses.” The musician will turn 85 June 22.

Morris Mac Davis (January 21, 1942 – September 29, 2020)

 

Country musician Mac Davis, known for writing enduring Elvis
Presley hits like A Little Less Conversation and “In the Ghetto”
has died at age 78.

His longtime manager Jim Morey said in a statement on Facebook
that Davis died on Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn., after heart surgery
and was surrounded by family and friends.

Davis had a long and varied career in music for decades as a writer,
singer, actor and TV host and was inducted into the Songwriters
Hall of Fame in 2006.

Patsy Cline (Virginia Patterson Hensley)
(September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963)

 

Country singer who recorded “I Fall To Pieces” in 1961, as well as hits
like “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “Sweet Dreams.” She was the first
female solo artist to become part of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Her mother Hilda introduced her to music and they sang together in
church. Cline had perfect pitch but could never read music.
