THE BEATLES FIRST U.S.TOUR ON THIS DATE IN 1964

When The Beatles arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York,
they were greeted by an estimated crowd of about three thousand exuberant
fans.The groups first U.S.concert was on February 11th at the Sports Arena
in Washington, D.C. (poster shown below).

FUNERAL OF BUDDY HOLLY ON THIS DATE IN 1959

Buddy Holly’s funeral was held at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in his hometown of 
Lubbock,Texas.The service was officiated by Ben D. Johnson, who had presided at 
the Hollys’ wedding just months earlier. Among the pallbearers was Phil Everly.The
body was interred in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Holly’s headstone carries the
correct spelling of his surname (Holley).

SINATRA’S RADIO DEBUT ON THIS DATE IN 1943

Frank Sinatra made his radio debut ,above, as a singer when he joined Your Hit
Parade
on CBS in 1943. He stayed on the show until 1945, returning (1946- 49)
to co-star with Doris Day.
