Harland David "Colonel" Sanders (September 9, 1890 – December 16, 1980)
ws the founder of the Kentucky Fried Chicken Company, now know as KFC. His
iconic image remains in company promotions today. Sanders was given the title
of honorary "Kentucky Colonel” in 1935 by the Governor of Kentucky, Ruby
Laffoon and was “re-commissioned” by Governor Lawrence Wetherby. Over
the years Sanders developed his “secret recipe” for frying chicken in a
pressure fryer that cooked the chicken much faster than pan frying.
