FIRST COLOR TV SETS SOLD ON THIS DAY IN 1953

The Admiral color TV with a 15" screen

The first compatible color television was built by the Admiral corporation and went
on sale Dec. 30, 1953. The set had a price tag of $1,175. According to the David
Sarnoff Library in Princeton, N.J., the first coast-to-coast color TV broadcast was
the January 1, 1954 Tournament of Roses Parade on NBC.

LAST NUMBER ONE BILLBOARD HIT IN 1973

Jim Croce

"Time in a Bottle" is a posthumous Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100 hit
singles chart number-one hit for singer Jim Croce. It reached to top spot on the
Billboard chart on December 30, 1973,  three months after his death in a plane
crash. It was the third posthumous number one single on the Hot 100. At the
same time, it was a number-one hit on the Billboard Easy Listening chart.

LAST WEEKLY “LIFE” ON THIS DAY IN 1972

LIFE 12 29 1972 

After 36 years of publication, the last weekly issue of "LIFE" magazine (above)
hit the newsstands. It became a monthly publication from 1978 to 2000.
