Buddy’s headstone carries the correct spelling of his name


Buddy Holly’s funeral service was held at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lubbock, 
Texas on Saturday, February 7, 1959. Over a thousand mourners attended. His body 
was buried in the city of Lubbock cemetery.

On Feb 2, 1959, Buddy Holly along with Ritchie Valens and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson had just performed at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Shortly
after midnight, the three rock stars left in a chartered plane that crashed soon
after take off, killing the stars and the pilot, Roger Peterson.

The above statue of Buddy Holly is the centerpiece of a “walk of
fame” located in downtown Lubbock which features plaques of
various area artists such as Mac Davis and Waylon Jennings.
