President Obama took his second term oath of office with his hand on two Bibles:one once owned by Abraham Lincoln and a bible that had been used
by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Lincoln Bible is the bible originally used by President Abraham Lincoln at his
1861 presidential inauguration. The Lincoln family donated the bible to the Library
of
Congress
, which includes it in their collection. Barack Obama chose to use the
Lincoln Bible at his 2009 presidential inauguration and his second term inauguration
which took place today.

The Bible is an Oxford University Press edition of the King James Bible, published in 1853, it has 1280 pages, and measures approximately 6 inches long by 4 inches wide, and 1.75 inches thick, and is bound in burgundy red velvet with gilt edges. The back flyleaf of the bible bears the seal of the Supreme Court of the United States along
with a record of the 1861 inauguration.
