PITTOCK GRANDAUGHTER, DIES AT 110
Elizabeth Leadbetter “Betty” Meier
(July 26, 1904 – December 2, 2014)
Elizabeth died peacefully at her home in Portland on
Tuesday, Dec. 2. She was the granddaughter of Henry
L. Pittock, pioneer wood and paper magnate who is
often referred to as the founder of The Oregonian
newspaper. Born in Portland, Oregon, Betty was the
youngest of four children. She is survived by her children;
stepson; 24 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and
four great-great-grandchildren.

David Warren "Dave" Brubeck (December 6, 1920 – December 5, 2012)
Brubeck was told to go to the College of the Pacific’s conservatory by his
zoologist professor when it became clear that his heart wasn’t in veterinary
science. He was almost expelled from the conservatory because he couldn’t
read music.
