SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1943

Dinah Shore (Frances Rose Shore)
(February 29, 1916 – February 24, 1994)

In March of 1939, Dinah Shore debuted on national radio on the Sunday
afternoon CBS radio program, Ben Bernie’s Orchestra. She soon became
a successful singing star with her own variety radio show in 1943.Call to
Music
on NBC.

The radio show made the move to television in 1951, where the variety
show (shown “in living color” after 1956) continued until 1963.

Lucille Désirée Ball (August 6, 1911 – April 26, 1989)

Actress and comedienne Lucille Ball became immortalized on 
CBS-TV’s I Love Lucy (1951-1957), and was posthumously
awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Living
Legacy Award. Before fame, Ball briefly worked under the
stage name of Diane Belmont, but was unable to keep a job
as a chorus girl on Broadway.
