Douglas Edwards (July 14, 1917 – October 13, 1990)

The "CBS Television News" began as a Saturday night broadcast, expanding to 
two nights in 1947 and becoming "Douglas Edwards and the News" on a nightly 
basis on August 15, 1948.

By 1962, Edwards was replaced by Walter Cronkite, and the name of the program
was eventually changed to “CBS Evening News.
