LIMO LICENSE PLATES SELL AT AUCTION

DALLAS (AP) – The license plates that were on the limousine carrying President
John F. Kennedy when he was assassinated in Dallas have sold at auction for
$100,000.

Noah Fleisher with Heritage Auctions says the plates sold Saturday for well over
the initial bid of $40,000. Fleisher says they were purchased by a "high-end
Kennedy collector" who requested anonymity.

FIRST SI-FI RADIO SHOW ON THIS DAY IN 1932

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was a radio drama series based on the popularity
of the novel and comics series Buck Rogers. It aired until March 28, 1947. It was
initially broadcast as a 15-minute program on CBS Radio, from Monday through 
Thursday. Actors Matt Crowley, Curtis Arnall, Carl Frank and John Larkin all voiced
Buck Rogers at various times during the run.

MUSIC MAN JOHNNY RIVERS IS 73 TODAY


Johnny Rivers  (born John Henry Ramistella in Baton Rouge, Louisiana)

On June 12, 2009, Johnny Rivers was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of
Fame
. His name has been suggested many times for induction into the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame
, but he has never been selected. Rivers, however, is a nominee
for 2015 induction into America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame.

MOVIE PREMIERED ON THIS DAY IN 1963

The epic comedy film It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World was produced and
directed by Stanley Kramer and features Spencer Tracy with an all-star cast 
including Jimmy Durante, Edie Adams, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett,
Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Phil Silvers, Terry-Thomas and Jonathan
Winters
. The film marked the first time that Kramer had directed a comedy.
