WILLIE NELSON IS 83 TODAY

 


Willie Hugh Nelson was born in Abbott, Texas.

After graduating from high school, in 1950, Willie Nelson joined the 
Air Force but was later discharged due to back problems. After his 
return, he attended Baylor University for two years but dropped out 
because he was succeeding in music. During this time, he worked
as a disc jockey at Texas radio stations while singing in Honky-tonks
And
moved to Vancouver, Washington, where he worked at country
radio station KVAN and wrote "Family Bible" and recorded the song
"Lumberjack" in 1956.

GAME SHOW SCHEDULED TO RETURN

(TV Guide) – The ’70s game show "Match Game" is coming back, with
Alec Baldwin picking up the long, skinny microphone originally held by
Gene Rayburn as host. According to the report, the new "Match Game"
will air for 10 episodes this summer on Sundays at 10/9c on ABC as part
of a game show block that will also include "Celebrity Family Feud"and
"
The $100,000 Pyramid."

58th birthday on April 3rd.

SINGERS TV SPECIAL ON THIS DAY IN 1965

The first of Barbra Streisand’s TV specials, "My Name is Barbra", coincided
with the release of her album by the same name. It was shot in black & white
and featured no guests, just Barbra and 27 songs. The special was critically
acclaimed, won three Emmy Awards, and was followed in 1966 by her next
special "Color Me Barbra".

RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1959

The R&B/pop record "Personality" was recorded by Lloyd Price and 
reached #2 for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one
of Lloyd Price’s most popular crossover hits. The song was also a #1
R&B hit, maintaining the top spot for four weeks. Billboard ranked it as
the No. 3 song for 1959. 

 


Lloyd Price turned 83 in March.
