RADIO SERIES BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1929

The Goldbergs
began on the NBC radio network as a weekly 15-minute program
called The Rise of the Goldbergs, going daily in 1931. The series moved to CBS
in 1936 with the title shortened to The Goldbergs. The program was devised by
writer/actress Gertrude Berg who portrayed Jewish matriarch Molly Goldberg.

CRISIS ENDED ON THIS DAY IN 1962

The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the October Crisis formally ended 
when the Soviet Union removed its missiles and bombers from Cuba and
the U.S.ended its blockade of the island. A series of agreements sharply
reduced U.S.–Soviet tensions during the following years.
