Billboard Magazine introduced its "Hot 100" chart, which was part popularity and a barometer of the movement of potential hits. It quickly became the industry standard
and Billboard dropped the Best Sellers In Stores chart on October 13, 1958. The
first number one song on the “Hot 100” was Ricky Nelson’s "Poor Little Fool."
