Congress passed the 19th Amendment, granting the right
to vote to women, on
this day in history, June 4, 1919 —
sending the text of the amendment to the states for it’s
ratification.

The amendment read, "The right of citizens of the United
States to vote
shall not be denied or abridged by the
United States or by any State on account of sex."

The U.S. Senate’s webpage for the centennial of women’s
suffrage said
the Senate voted 56-25 in favor of the
amendment.
