FIRST COLOR 3-D FILM OPENED IN 1953
House of Wax, premiered on April 10, 1953 at the Paramount
Theater in New York.The general release was on April 25.
It was the first color 3-D feature film released by a major
studio (Warner Bros).
Directed by André de Toth and starring Vincent Price, this horror
film utilized WarnerColor,
Natural Vision 3D, and stereophonic sound, quickly becoming
a box-office hit.

SOCIETY FOUNDED ON THIS DAY IN 1866
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals (ASPCA) was founded on April 10, 1866, in
New York City by philanthropist Henry Bergh, making
it the first humane society in North America.
It was incorporated to prevent animal cruelty, initially
focusing on protecting work horses and livestock.
Henry Bergh (August 29, 1813 – March 12, 1888)
Bergh’s dramatic street rescues of mistreated horses
and livestock served as a model for those trying to
protect abused children.
