At 11:30 a.m. on May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary of New Zealand
and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, become the first
known explorers to reach the summit of Mount Everest,
which at 29,035 feet above sea level is the highest point
on earth.       

News of their achievement broke around the world on June 2, the
day of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, and Britons hailed it as a
good omen for their country’s future.

also known as JFK, was the 35th president of the United States,
serving from 1961 until his assassination in 1963.

He was the youngest person elected president, at 43 years.

Bob Hope (Lester Townes) (May 29, 1903 – July 27, 2003) was
a British-born comedian, actor, entertainer and producer with
a career that spanned nearly 80 years and achievements in
vaudeville, network radio, television, and USO Tours.

He appeared in more than 70 short and feature films, starring
in 54, including a series of seven Road to … musical comedy
films with Bing Crosby as his partner. He reached his 100th
birthday 59 days before he died in 2003.
