Portland’s Union Station, built in 1896 and still serving as a
major passenger rail and transit hub, once had a bustling
news stand that was a familiar part of the station’s atmosphere
for decades (above).
The station’s centennial in 1996 featured oral reminiscences
from residents, some of those memories included the station’s
news stand as a place where travelers could buy newspapers, magazines, and local goods

Sam Neill, the New Zealand icon best known for playing
paleontologist Dr Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park
franchise, has died aged 78.
News of the actor’s death was confirmed by his family
in a statement shared on social media on Monday.
No cause of death has been disclosed, but Neill had
only recently revealed he was cancer-free after being
diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer in 2022.
Harrison Ford is 84 years old today. He was
was born in 1942 in Chicago, Ill.
Sir Patrick Stewart is 86 today. He was born
in England in 1940.
Kendrick Kang-Joh Jeong was born in 1969
in Detroit, Michigan. He is 57 years old today.
Ghost was theatrically released on July 13, 1990 by Paramount
Pictures to commercial success.
It grossed $505 million against a budget of $22–23 million, was
the highest-grossing film of 1990, and at the time of its release
was the third-highest-grossing film of all time.
Ghost earned five nominations at the 63rd Academy Awards:
Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing, and
winning Best Supporting Actress for Goldberg and Best
Original Screenplay for Rubin.
