The Kingsmen’s recording of “Louis Louie” was released in May 1963, initially
issued on the Jerden label, before being picked up by Wand Records and
released by them in October 1963. It entered the top ten on the Billboard Hot
100 chart for December 7, and peaked at number two the following week, a
spot which it held for six weeks. it remained in the top 10 through December
and January before dropping off in early February. In total, The Kingsmen’s
version of the Richard Berry song, which was recorded in Portland, Oregon,
spent 16 weeks on the Hot 100.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. IS 50 TODAY
Robert Downey Jr. was born in Manhattan, New York.
Downey is best known for playing Iron Man in the Marvel film series which
began in 2008. He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor
for his role in Ally McBeal in 2000 and another award for Best Actor for his
his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in 2009. He has also starred in such films
as Zodiac (2007),Tropic Thunder (2008), and Chaplin (1992). He began
acting at the age of five when he played a puppy in the 1970 film Pound,
which was directed by his father Robert Downey, Sr.

in a Motion Picture Made for Television. Since then, he has appeared
in several mini-series such as The Thorn Birds on ABC (1983), many
successful films, performed classical stage roles and worked in the
musical theatre.
This song became a hit for Chamberlain when released as a single
in 1963, peaking at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
