     Pearl Sydenstricker Buck (June 26, 1892 – March 6, 1973)

Writer Pearl S Buck, known also by her Chinese name, Sai Zhenzju, was
born in Hillsboro, West Virginia. As an infant she went with her parents to
China where they continued their missionary work. She.spent most of her
time until 1934 in China.Through her Chinese tutors she became learned
in Chinese classical literature, culture and folk lore.

Her novel The Good Earth, depicting peasant live in China, was the best-
selling fiction book in the U.S. in 1931 and 1932, and won the Pulitzer
Prize in 1932 and later won the Dean Howells Medal for Distinguished
Fiction in 1936. In 1938, Buck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Chester Burton "Chet" Atkins
(June 20, 1924 – June 30, 2001)

Chet Atkins was a influential and unique guitarist and record producer who,
along with Owen Bradley, created the smooth country music style known as
the Nashville sound,

Atkins received, among many honors, 14 Grammy Awards as well as the
Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, nine Country Music Association
Instrumentalist of the Year awards, and was inducted into the Country
Music Hall of Fame and Museum
.

LEGENDARY COACH BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1913

                    Vincent Thomas "Vince" Lombardi
  

                   (June 11, 1913 – September 3, 1970)

Vince Lombardi was a football coach best remembered as the head
coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s, where he led the
team to three straight league championships and five in seven years,
including winning the first two Super Bowls following the 1966 and
1967 NFL seasons. The National Football League‘s Super Bowl
trophy is named in his honor. He was enshrined in the NFL’s Pro
Football Hall of Fame in 1971.

            Judy Garland (born Frances Ethel Gumm) 

                      (June 10, 1922 – June 22, 1969)

In 1997, Garland was posthumously awarded a Grammy Lifetime
Achievement Award
. Several of her recordings have been inducted
into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 1999, the American Film Institute 
(AFI) placed her among the ten greatest female stars in the history
of American cinema.
