INFLUENTIAL SINGER IS 73 TODAY

Canadian born singer-songwriter Paul Albert Anka

Anka became famous in the late 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s with his 
top hit songs like "Diana", "Lonely Boy", and "Put Your Head on My  
Shoulder
". He wrote such well-known music as the theme for The
Tonight Show Starring
Johnny Carson
and one of Tom Jones‘s
biggest hits, "She’s a Lady", as well as the English lyrics for
Frank Sinatra‘s signature song, "My Way" which was originally
a French song.

Bobbie Gentry (Roberta Lee Streeter) was
born in Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

Gentry’s big hit , "Ode to Billie Joe" in 1967, charted at #1 for multiple weeks 
on the Billboard Hot 100. She paid for her education at UCLA by working 
clerical jobs. Her first single was "Mississippi Delta," which she released
in 1967.Bobby Gentry is known to be one of the first female country 
artists to compose and produce her own material.

chart for four weeks. It was his first hit and was also the first number-one hit for
Epic Records.
