becoming the first of their five number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100
chart. It also reached the top of the Hot Soul Singles chart and was an
international chart hit.

“Wooden Heart” by Joe Dowell knocked Bobby Lewis’ "Tossin’ and Turnin’" off the
number-one spot of the Billboard Hot 100 after seven weeks. Dowell’s version also
spent three weeks at number one on the Easy Listening chart.
Joe Dowell turned 72 in January
Joe Dee & The Starliters were the house band for the Peppermint Lounge in New
York City for more than a year. Dee wrote "Peppermint Twist," along with producer
Henry Glover, as a tribute to the lounge and the song scored #1 on the charts
during early 1962. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.
