RECORD RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1969
"American Woman" by Canadian rock band The Guess Who was
first released in January 1970 on the album of the same name and
later in March as a single. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

MORE LAUGHS FROM STAN FREBERG
"St. George and the Dragonet" was recorded August 26, 1953 by Stan
Freberg for Capitol Records. The satire was released September 21,
1953 and reached #1 on both the Billboard and Cash Box record
charts.

NUMBER-ONE SONG ON THIS DAY IN 1971
James Taylor scored his only Billboard number one hit record
with the Carole King written, "You’ve Got A Friend". The song
would go on to win the 1971 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal
Performance, Male.
