   Sophie Tucker (Sonya Kalish) (January 13, 1887 – February 9, 1966)

Tucker was a Russian-born American singer, comedian, actress, and radio
personality. She was known for her delivery of comical and sometimes risqué
songs, Sophie Tucker was one of the most popular entertainers in America
during the first half of the 20th century.


Sophie Tucker on her final network television appearance originally aired 
Oct. 1965 on The Ed Sullivan Show in color.

The Australian born actor has appeared in over 50 films, and is well known for
his leading roles in the science fiction classic The Time Machine (1960), and in
the Alfred Hitchcock horror thriller The Birds (1963). For a time Taylor worked
as a commercial artist after studying at a fine arts college.

Yvette Carmen Mimieux

Among Yvette’s earliest screen appearances was a role in the teen movie
Where the Boys Are (1960) as well as in George Pal‘s film version of H.G.
Wells 1895 novel The Time Machine (also 1960).

Mimieux retired from acting in 1992. She is now an anthropologist and a
real estate investor.

COWBOY STAR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1880

         Thomas Edwin "Tom" Mix  (Thomas Hezikiah Mix)  

          (January 6, 1880 – October 12, 1940)

Mix was the star of many early Western movies. Between 1909 and 1935,
Mix appeared in 291 films, all but nine of which were silent movies. He
was Hollywood’s first Western megastar and is noted as having helped
define the genre for all cowboy actors who followed.
