CLASSIC NOVELLA WAS PUBLISHED IN 1937

John Steinbeck’s novella Of Mice and Men, the story of the
bond between two migrant workers,was published.It explores
themes of companionship, loneliness, and the fragility of
dreams.

Steinbeck adapted the book into a three-act play, which was
produced the same year.

The story brought national attention to Steinbeck’s work,
which had started to catch on in 1935 with the publication
of his first successful novel, Tortilla Flat.

On this day in history, December 19, 1843, Charles Dickens publishes 'A  Christmas Carol'

On December 19, 1843, Charles Dickens classic story “A
Christmas Carol” was
published.

Dickens was born in 1812 and father, a clerk in the navy
pay office, was thrown into debtors’ prison in 1824, and
12-year-old Charles was sent to work in a factory.

The miserable treatment of children and the institution of
the debtors’ jail became topics of several of Dickens’
novels.
