AVIATOR’S SOLO FLIGHT ACROSS THE PACIFIC ON THIS DATE IN 1935

Aviation pioneer and author Amelia Earhart made a flight from
Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California, becoming the first
woman to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. The plane she
flew on that trip, a Lockheed Vega, is on display at the
National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

NORTHWEST HIJACKING ON THIS DATE IN 1971

Hijacker D.B. Cooper parachuted from a Northwest Airlines
727 over Washington State with $200,000 in ransom. His
whereabouts remains a mystery. The bulk of the money
has never been recovered. The F.B.I. believes Cooper
did not survive the Jump.
