Ron Howard, actor, director, and producer came to prominence as a child actor,
playing Opie Taylor in the CBS-TV sitcom The Andy Griffith Show from 1960 to
1969 and later as the teenaged Richie Cunningham on the sitcom Happy Days
on ABC from 1974 – 1984. Ron made film appearances in American Grafiti in
1973 and in The Shootist in 1976 with John Wayne. He made his directorial
debut with the 1977 comedy film Grand Theft Auto.

Gavin MacLeod is an actor most known for playing Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (CBS-TV, 1970 – 1977) and Captain Merrill Stubing (above left) on The Love Boat (ABC-TV, 1977 – 1986). MacLeod’s first movie appearance was a small , un-credited role in The True Story of Lynn Stuart in 1958. Soon thereafter, he landed a credited role in I Want to Live!, a  1958 prison drama starring Susan Hayward. He was soon noticed by Blake Edwards, who in 1958 cast him in Operation Petticoat with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. The movie proved to be a breakout role for Macleod.

Howard Hesseman is best known for playing disc jockey Johnny Fever
on the CBS sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati (1978 – 1982) and schoolteacher
Charlie Moore on Head of the Class (ABC 1986 – 1991). Hesseman was
born in Lebanon, Oregon and attended the university of Oregon.

JIM BACKUS WAS BORN ON THIS DATE IN 1913

Jim Backus was a radio, television, film, and voice actor. Among his most
remembered roles… the voice of Mr. Magoo,  Joan Davis’s husband on  
TV’s I married Joan, and Thurston Howell, lll on the CBS-TV hit sitcom 
Gilligan’s Island (1964 – 1967). Jim died on July 3, 1989. He was 76.

Grissom on the CBS-TV series CSI:Crime Scene Investigation. He
