The “Ed Sullivan Show”, originally ”Toast of the Town”, aired on
CBS TV from Sunday June 20, 1948 to Sunday June 6, 1971. The
Show was hosted by New York entertainment columnist Ed Sullivan.
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were among the guests of the first
show. Elvis Presley and The Beatles also made appearances.
A little Italian mouse named Topo Gigo was a regular guest.

LONGEST BRIDGE OPENED ON THIS DAY IN 1964

verrazano narrows bridge
The “Verrazano Narrows” has a center span of 4,260 feet
and connects Staten Island and Brooklyn in New York City.
It was named for Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano. 
This was the world’s longest suspension bride until the
”Humber Bridge” in Britain opened in 1981.
