Don Wilson (left) is the rhythm guitarist and a founding member of the legendary
instrumental  group The Ventures. He and Bob Bogle (right) formed the group in
1958 while both were doing masonry work in Tacoma, Washington. Bogle, who
was the lead guitarist and later bassist of The Ventures, died on June 14, 2009 in
Vancouver, Washington at the age of 75. On March 10, 2008, The Ventures were
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Ventures are still the most popular American rock group in Japan.

BOB BOGLE ~ JANUARY 16, 1934–JUNE 14, 2009

Bob was a founding member the legendary northwest instrumental
combo, THE VENTURES. He and Don Wilson formed the group in
1958. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
in 2008. Bogle was 75 when he died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
in Vancouver, Washington.

AVIATOR’S SOLO FLIGHT ACROSS THE PACIFIC ON THIS DATE IN 1935

Aviation pioneer and author Amelia Earhart made a flight from
Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California, becoming the first
woman to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. The plane she
flew on that trip, a Lockheed Vega, is on display at the
National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
