Jane Powell, a singer, dancer and actress was born Suzanne Lorraine Burce
in Portland, Oeg. Her parents were Paul E. Burce, a Wonder Bread employee,
and Eileen Baker Burce, a housewife. Powell began dance lessons at the age
of two. She rose to fame locally as a singer and was signed to Metro-Goldwyn-
Mayer while still in her teens. She was soon cast in musicals such as Royal
Wedding, with Fred Astaire, A Date with Judy, with the late Elizabeth Taylor,
and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, with Howard Keel. Her movie career
was replaced with a busy theater and television career in the late 1950s. As
of 2010, Powell lives with her fifth husband, former child star Dickie Moore,
in New York City and Connecticut, and is still active in stage and TV work.

Watched most of your movies.and wanted so much to sing and dance just like you…I grew up in Portland, my dad worked at Portland Heights grocery, where he said you practiced your singing on the back steps. Wondered if that was really true……so very sorry for your loss of Dickie Moore, but glad you had good years together……God bless you, praying God will sustain, comfort , and give you His peace…..lovingly, Margaret Fairchild……..
