Vikki Carr is a singer of Mexican ancestry from El Paso, Texas. She has
performed in a variety of music genres, including jazz, pop and country,
but has enjoyed her greatest success singing in Spanish. Her album
“It Must Be Him” was nominated for three Grammy Awards. The title
track reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967 and sold
over one million copies. “It Must Be Him” was awarded a gold disc.

GEORGE HAMILTON IV TURNED 74 TODAY

Singer George Hege Hamilton IV began performing in the late 1950s as a teen
idol, later switching to country music in the early 1960s. Hamilton’s breakthrough
hit was the 1961 song "Before this Day Ends". His biggest hit came two years later
with "Abilene”, a song penned by John D. Loudermilk. The song spent four weeks
at No. 1 on the Billboard country singles chart and reached the Top 20 of the
Hot 100.

According to the Billboard Book of Number One Hits by Fred Bronson,
Brenda Lee recorded the song early in 1960 but her label, Decca
Records, held it from release for several months out of concern that
a 15-year-old girl was not mature enough to sing about unrequited love.
