Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Harris) (April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959)
Holiday was a jazz singer and songwriter who had a great influence on
the style of jazz and pop singing. One critic wrote that Billie Holiday
“changed the art of American pop vocals forever”. She co-wrote only
a few songs,several of which became jazz standards, notably “God
Bless the Child”.

Billie Holiday was nicknamed “Lady Day” by a friend and musical
partner, saxophonist Lester “Prez” Young.
