Irving Berlin was a composer and lyricist, widely considered one of the
greatest songwriters in American history. He published his first song,
"Marie from Sunny Italy", in 1907 and had his first major international
hit with "Alexander’s Ragtime Band" in 1911.
"God Bless America" is a patriotic song written by Irving Berlin in
1918. He revised it in 1938 and it was then recorded by Kate Smith,
becoming her signature song.
