    David McClure Brinkley
(July 10, 1920 – June 11, 2003)

Television Personality/Newscaster David Brinkley was a main fixture on
television for over 50 years including on NBC and ABC, beginning his
career as a broadcaster in the 1940s. Appearing as a co-anchor with
Chet Huntley on the news program, "The Huntley-Brinkley Report" from
1956 to 1970, and "This Week With David Brinkley" from 1982 until he
retired in 1997.

Singer/actor Ed Ames (born Edmund Dantes Urick) is best known for his pop 
and contemporary hits of the 1960s like "My Cup Runneth Over". He was also 
part of a popular 1950s singing group called The Ames Brothers.

BELL TELEPHONE FORMED ON THIS DAY IN 1877

The Bell Telephone Company was founded by Alexander Graham Bell along
with his father-in-law Gardiner Greene Hubbard. Under Hubbard’s guidance,
the company developed the first telephones with the assistance of Thomas
Watson and by the end of 1877 was responsible for over 3,000 phones in
service under the Bell Telephone Company name. The firm grew quickly,
boasting over 10,000 phones in service by the end of 1878.
