RADIO AND TV PIONEER BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1891
David Sarnoff (February 27, 1891 – December 12, 1971)
David Sarnoff was a businessman and pioneer of commercial radio and television
and led the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and the National Broadcasting
Company throughout most most of his career until his retirement in 1970. He
was named a Reserve Brigadier General of the Signal Corps in 1945 and was
thereafter widely known as “The General.”

CHART TOPPER ON THIS DAY IN 1961
"Pony Time" was Chubby Checker’s second number-one hit, after
”The Twist” the previous year. The song introduced another new
dance style.
