William H. Bonney, better known as “Billy the Kid”, was born William
Henry McCarty, Jr. on November 23, 1859 and died July 14, 1881. He
was shot by Sheriff Pat Garrett near Fort Sumner, New Mexico. It is
still rumored that Billy the Kid was not killed that night in 1881, and
in fact that Garrett, who was a known friend of the Kid’s, may have
staged it all so the Kid could escape the law.
