Elvis Presley reached a Billboard chart outside of Memphis for the first
time when "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" hit the top 10, #6 in Nashville and
#3 in New Orleans. The song had been written in 1946 by Bill Monroe
as a slow waltz, but Elvis and his band turned it into an upbeat, Blues-
style number.
