The pilot for Dragnet, "The Human Bomb" aired on NBC-TV as a special
presentation of the variety series Chesterfield Sound-Off Time. The show
garnered such high ratings that sponsor Liggett & Myers Tobacco dropped
the variety show and went with the police drama. The series officially began
on January 3, 1952 and ran until 1959.
